Three routes into Logic Pro shown as a schematic: one-time purchase, subscription, and free trial, converging on a Mac and an iPad.

Pick your route into Logic Pro

There are three ways to get Logic Pro, and the software you end up with is the same in each case. Apple states that Logic Pro's features are identical whether you subscribe or buy outright.

  • Buy once. Logic Pro for Mac costs US$199.99 as a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store. Best if you only need the Mac version and plan to use it for years. See the system requirements first.
  • Subscribe. Apple Creator Studio costs US$12.99 a month or US$129 a year and bundles Logic Pro for Mac and iPad with Final Cut Pro, MainStage, Pixelmator Pro, Motion and Compressor. Best if you also edit video, want the iPad version, or prefer a low monthly cost. Details on the iPad guide.
  • Try first. New Creator Studio subscribers get 30 days free. The old standalone 90-day Logic Pro trial has ended. Our trial guide covers starting, cancelling and keeping your projects.

On a Windows PC? Logic Pro does not run there, and the Windows guide lays out your real options.

Decision flow: do you need the iPad version or Final Cut Pro? If yes, subscribe; if no, buy once; if unsure, start the 30-day trial.

How to download Logic Pro from the Mac App Store

  1. Confirm your Mac has Apple silicon and macOS 15.6 or later: Apple menu > About This Mac.
  2. Open the App Store app from the Dock or Launchpad.
  3. Search for Logic Pro and open the Apple listing.
  4. Click the price button to buy outright, or the Creator Studio button to subscribe or start the trial. Sign in with your Apple Account if asked.
  5. Wait for the download, then launch Logic Pro from Applications. On first launch Logic Pro asks to download essential sounds; choose Logic Pro > Sound Library > Download All Available Sounds later if you want the complete library.

Apple does not publish the installer size or the full Sound Library size on its specs page, so leave generous free space on your startup disk before you begin. Our requirements guide explains how to move the Sound Library to an external drive.

What's new in Logic Pro 12

Logic Pro 12 was announced on 13 January 2026 alongside Apple Creator Studio and is a free upgrade for existing owners. According to Sound On Sound's March 2026 review and Apple's product page, the headline additions are Chord ID, a Synth Player for Session Players, a dedicated Sound Library window, Flashback Capture (an always-on buffer that keeps audio and MIDI you played before pressing record), Stem Splitter, machine-learning Pitch Correction, Smart Tempo improvements, Quick Swipe Comping, Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos ADM export, and the ChromaGlow saturation plug-in. If you are moving up from Logic Pro 11, open your existing projects as normal; Logic Pro 12 reads them directly.

FAQ

Is Logic Pro free?

No. Logic Pro for Mac is US$199.99 as a one-time purchase, or included in Apple Creator Studio from US$12.99 a month. New Creator Studio subscribers get the first 30 days free.

Do I get different features if I subscribe instead of buying?

No. Apple states the Logic Pro features are identical either way; the subscription adds the iPad version and the other Creator Studio apps.

Can I download Logic Pro on an Intel Mac?

Apple's current specs page lists only Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 15.6 or later, so Logic Pro 12 is not offered for Intel Macs.
